Brief History of St. Charles Lwanga Kitabi Vocational S.S.S

The history of St Charles Lwanga Kitabi Voc.S.S has been an interesting one. The Bannakaroli Brothers Kiterrede were invited to Kitabi Parish, Mbarara Diocese by then, by the Late Bishop John Baptist Kakubi in 1979. On Wednesday 24th November 1982, the brothers received a letter from the Bishop accepting them to open a preparatory school for candidates intending to join their congregation.

In 1984 the school opened with the Late Bro. Peter Claver Matsika as the first headteacher. He was succeeded by Late Bro. Martin Rei, then Bro. Avito Ssebuliba and lastly Late Bro. Emmanuel Ssemakula. In 1987, the school had challenges that resulted into its temporary closure. All students were transferred to Kiteredde Secondary School Kyotera to proceed with their studies. The school remained closed until 1994.

In 1995, the school was re-opened with Bro. Posiano Bukenya as the Headteacher. The man of God sacrificed whatever he had to ensure that the St. Charles Lwanga we see today restarted. We are told that Bro. Bukenya had to go and teach English and Literature at Kitabi Seminary to get money to pay salaries of some teacher s. Since 1995, St Charles has continued to grow stronger each and every year. Great thanks go to all the head teachers of this school since its inception.
